Can I use aluminium heritage windows in a conservation area?
Often, yes. Heritage aluminium systems are designed to replicate steel windows like-for-like, which is what planners usually look for. Listed buildings and some conservation areas need consent first, so we can supply drawings and product details to support your application.
What's the difference between the AluK and Smarts heritage ranges?
Both give a slim steel look. AluK's 58BW ST Heritage window has very slim 43mm fixed-light sightlines and a choice of putty-line, stepped, square or chamfered profiles, with a matching Heritage door. Smarts Alitherm Heritage uses stacked modules with a drip bar, and pairs with Heritage 60 doors, heritage-sash bifolds and AluSpace internal screens. We'll recommend the best fit for your building.
Can I have heritage-style French doors or a single back door?
Yes. AluK's Heritage door and Smarts' Alitherm Heritage 60 both come as single doors and French doors, with fanlights and sidelights available to make a full glazed screen.
Are heritage bifold doors available?
Yes. Smarts Visofold 1000 has a heritage-style sash that matches Alitherm Heritage windows. For the slimmest frames, Visofold 6000 has a 94mm sightline.
Do steel-look internal screens need Building Regulations approval?
Internal screens like AluSpace are not thermal elements, but safety glass is required in critical locations. We'll specify the right glass for doors and low-level panes.
